Withered Knight

Ultimate Polearm & Shield Build

Big tank with lots of crowd control and generally safe damage options. Works for solos & trios with some occasional tweaks. If you prefer outlasting your opponents rather than bursting them down, this is the definitive Withered Knight setup.

1. Core Philosophy

You are the immovable object. The Polearm gives you range, and the shield gives you impenetrable defense. Your goal is to outlast your opponent, slowly whittle them down with poke damage, and provide massive utility in group fights.

  • Defense Over Offense: Unlike the Greatsword builds, you rely on the stationary block of the Tower Shield.
  • Spacing: You must master the exact range of your Polearm. You want to hit enemies just at the tip where their shorter weapons cannot reach you.

2. Skill Loadout

Primary Weapons: Halberd of the Fallen & Tower Shield

The Halberd provides incredible sweep attacks, while the Tower Shield offers the highest block value in the game.

Active Skills

  • Skill 1: Shield Bash
    • Usage: Staggers enemies who get too close. This is your primary "get off me" tool. If a Shadowstrix jumps you, bash them away.
  • Skill 2: Sweeping Strike / Phalanx Formation
    • Usage: Good AoE clear for PvE. In Trios (PvP), swap to Phalanx Formation to give your team a frontal damage reduction barrier.
  • Skill 3: Withered Guard
    • Usage: Consumes Wither stacks to heal you based on damage blocked. This is the core of your infinite sustain.

3. Best Gear & Affixes

You want to prioritize block efficiency, health, and stamina.

| Slot | Recommended Item | Key Affixes | | :--- | :--- | :--- | | Helmet | Bastion Crown | +Block Angle, +Max HP | | Chest | Heavy Dreadnought Plate | +Physical Defense, +Poison Resist | | Gloves | Ironclad Gauntlets | +Shield Bash Stun Duration | | Boots | Sabatons of the Wall | +Knockback Resistance |

Stat Priority:

  1. Block Efficiency - Reduces the stamina cost of blocking attacks.
  2. Maximum Health & Armor
  3. Stoic (Rune/Affix) - Provides resistance when your HP is low and restores health when you drop below 30%, giving you a "reset" during intense fights.
  4. Stamina Regeneration

4. Playstyle Guide

1v1 Engagements

Keep enemies at the tip of your spear. Use light pokes to chip away their health. If they charge you, hold your shield up. Once they finish their combo and are low on stamina, hit them with a heavy sweep.

Team Fights (Trios)

Your job is to protect your Sorcerer or Seer. Stand in front of them. Use Intervene (if specced) to intercept projectiles. Use Shield Bash on anyone trying to dive your backline. You are the anchor of the team.

Pro Tips

[!TIP] Do not hold your shield up constantly while moving, as it severely slows your stamina regeneration. Only raise it when you visually confirm an attack animation starting.
